Hard drive data recovery – if you deleted the wrong file

February 18th, 2010

Ever click delete, then panic? Well, not many people know that when you simply delete a file, you only free up that location on the hard drive to be used for other files. But, if your computer does not feel the need to use the location of the deleted file – your deleted data can remain on your drive for a long time. In fact, I’d bet if you scanned your drive for deleted files, you would be amazed at what is still there.

Most people think they need a hard drive data recovery service to get those files back. Not so much. PC hard drive data recovery can be fast, easy, and best of all..free! There is of course a catch. If your hard drive fails, dead hard drive data recovery is a little more challenging and pricey. For this topic, let’s just assume you clicked delete and realized you should not have. Here’s what you can do:

Step 1: Download this free utility: http://www.piriform.com/recuva

Step 2: Run it.

That’s it. You will be presented with a list of all the so called “deleted” files on your drive. Keep in mind, this is a free data recovery tool. It may not be as detailed as some of the professional hard drive data recovery solutions, but for normal use… it can save your (data’s) life!

By the way; I use a few products by the company that provides the software above (Piriform). I’ve had great luck with them. Small footprint, and great results. And no, I’m not affiliated with them in any way. I just dig what they offer.
